Trenčín 2026 and Pohoda festival launched an open call for artists, musicians and cultural organizations and active communities to adopt and run the Garage as an alternative cultural venue.

We are pleased to announce that the winners of the first Garage open call and Garage adoptive parents from August till October 2022 are:

Yasmine Cabanová and Marek Niejadlík

Congratulations!

More about Yasmine and Marek, placement of Garage and its program coming up soon.

What is the Garage project?

Garage is a project of the Pohoda festival, which in cooperation with Trenčín 2026 is expanding beyond the festival grounds to the city. The real garage is transformed into an alternative cultural venue drawing on Trenčín´s underground background. The pilot was launched at a local skate park in 2021 during the candidacy of Trenčín for European Capital of Culture. Now it's time for Garage to travel across the city and offer a Trenčín-specific place for (not only) young creatives such as budding musicians as well as those interested in alternative art and subcultures - sound, film, animation, design, literature, and visual creation. Garage has an ambition to train a new, capable generation of producers, bands, and trans-disciplinary artists, as well as other creative industry-related professionals.

Who can apply?

Garage is looking to be adopted by cultural organizations, active communities, bands, individual artists, artistic collectives, creatives of all genres with interest in alternative culture, passion for learning new skills and cultural production. Younger participants are encouraged to apply as a group, but there must be at least one responsible adult member (18+).

How does it work?

One adoption cycle will last for three months. The winning applicant chooses the new location for the Garage and it will be transported during the second half of July 2022. From August till October 2022 it will be in care of the winning applicant, who will organize the programme proposed in the submission. The location must be chosen within the city of Trenčín.

In the very beginning the new Garage care-taker will take part in a workshop led by Pohoda Festival and Trenčín 2026 team. At the end of the cycle, a reflection workshop and knowledge sharing workshop will be organized with the Pohoda Festival, Trenčín 2026 team and the upcoming Garage care-taker.

What can be organized in the Garage?

Concerts, exhibitions, debates, discussions, workshops, performances, readings and more. The cultural formats are not limited, the most important is a feasible plan and clear vision.

What is the provided support?

Garage will be a place to learn new skills in cultural organization, production and dramaturgy development and the support includes:

  • Informal professional mentoring by Pohoda Festival and by Trenčín 2026 team

  • Workshop or masterclass from chosen professionals based on the needs of the winning applicant

  • Financial support up to 1500 for the winning applicant to conduct the programme

  • Basic sound, light, stage and other technical equipment

  • Transport of the Garage to the location and from the location

  • Promotional support via digital tools and social media

How can you apply?

Fill out the submission form here, where you specify the timeline, plan, vision and estimated budget for your proposal. The plan must follow the principles of sustainable cultural production and search for artistic quality in the chosen genre or area of culture. The cost of the programme may exceed the financial support and in that case the winning applicant is encouraged to explore other sources of funding.

The deadline for submissions is at 15:00, 17.5.2022. Programme team Trenčín 2026 and Pohoda Festival will choose the winning applicant based on the quality and feasibility of the proposed programme. The results will be announced 30.5.2022 at www.trencin2026.eu/garage.

The winner of the open call will be responsible for the production of the proposed programme in full scope.
